After selecting the bruising defenceman Owen Protz at 102nd overall, the Canadiens were back on the clock at the start of the fifth round. With their pick the club selected massive winger Tyler Thorpe from the Vancouver Giants in the WHL.

Standing 6’5″ tall and weighing in at 216 pounds, Thorpe is a large presence on the ice with an impressive shot to his name. He tallied 23 goals and 21 assists in 51 games for the Giants last year, with only 30 total penalty minutes as well.

There is not a long wait for Montreal as they are back on the clock at 134th overall in the fifth round.
