PWHL Montreal signs F Lina Ljungblom to three-year contract

Sweden's Lina Ljungblom (25) and Felizia Wikner-Zienkiewicz (29) at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, NY on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

A year after taking her with the final pick in the 2023 PWHL Draft, Swedish forward Lina Ljungblom has signed with PWHL Montreal.

The contract is a three-year deal. The 22-year-old was the MVP of the Swedish women’s Hockey League (SDHL) with MoDo last season. She had 23 goals and 23 assists in 36 games before adding eight goals and two assists in 10 playoff games. Her team ended up losing in the SDHL final. She was also named top player by the league’s coaches and players.

She is a native of Skövde, Sweden and has a silver medal at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 championship. In 152 SDHL games over six seasons, Ljungblom scored 80 goals and added 65 assists for 145 points. In 22 games representing Sweden at the World Championships, she has 10 goals and five assists.

Ljungblom will be a welcome addition to a Montreal top-six that was sometimes lacking finishing ability. Ljungblom is one of the top young players in the world, and has shown she can score at every level she has played.

“Our team is extremely happy to be welcoming Lina with open arms in Montreal. She is a dynamic and explosive player who will add depth to our offensive game. She was named league MVP last season in Sweden, and her arrival in Montreal will be a great asset for our team. Our fans will love seeing her do her thing on the ice,” said PWHL Montréal General Manager Danièle Sauvageau.
