With the first of their two seventh-round picks, the Montreal Canadiens opted for another forward, and a second one from the Russian leagues in the form of Makar Khanin.

Khanin split time between the MHL (Russia’s Junior league) and the VHL (their second tier) last season. He posted seven goals and two assists in just seven MHL games. In his 35 games with Dynamo Saint Petersburg in the VHL, he tallied nine goals and 18 assists.

Elite Prospects

He appears primed to join the VHL full-time next season as a 19-year-old, who will be 20 before the end of next season.

Montreal has one pick left at 224th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.
