Catching the Torch: Fucale & Tokarski dominate

The Three Stars

1. Zach Fucale

As the playoffs in the Quebec Major Juniors go on, Zach Fucale continues to be a solid presence in nets for the Halifax Mooseheads as they engage their second-round playoff opponent, the Gatineau Olympiques. In the opening game of the series, Fucale would turn aside 25 shots as Halifax would secure a 4-1 victory versus Gatineau. He would show similar form in his next game, turning aside 25 shots as Halifax would lock down a 6-2 win over Gatineau to take them to a 2-0 series lead. Through six games in the playoffs, Fucale is 3rd in the QMJHL in Goals-Against-Average at 1.41 and also 3rd in save percentage at .935. Zach Fucale was drafted in the 2nd round, 36th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft.

2. Dustin Tokarski

The leading goaltending talent on the Hamilton Bulldogs this past season, Dustin Tokarski continues to be a steady prescence in net for Hamilton as their season starts to come to a close. In his first start of the week, Tokarski would stop 27 of 28 shots as the Bulldogs would take a 4-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins. In a rematch versus Grand Rapids, Tokarski would impress further by stopping 37 of 38 shots, but would unfortunately be denied victory in a 2-1 shootout loss after stopping an additional 8 of 10 shots in the skills competition. Tokarski is sixth in the AHL in Goals-Against-Average at 2.36 and is tied for 5th in save percentage at .920. Dustin Tokarski was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2008 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Cedrick Desjardins.

3. Gabriel Dumont

With the Hamilton Bulldogs often challenged for scoring this season, Gabriel Dumont delivered this past week to help their position in the standings. Dumont would mark a goal in his 1st game of the week, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Oklahoma City Barons. He would pad his scoring with a goal and assist in his next game, a 4-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins, but would go without a point in a 2-1 shootout loss in a rematch with Grand Rapids the following night. Dumont leads the Hamilton Bulldogs in goals with 18, which is also a career high. Gabriel Dumont was drafted in the 5th round, 139th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2009 NHL Draft.
