Alex Galchenyuk injury: Canadiens forward won’t return to the game vs Chicago

What happened to Alex Galchenyuk? It looks like on his first shift of the game, Galchenyuk took a hard hit from Andrew Shaw, took one more shift, and went down the tunnel to the dressing room.

Luckily for us, @myregularface on twitter managed to grab a gif of the hit in question.

The Canadiens have announced that Galchenyuk has suffered a lower body injury, and will not return to the game.

In his absence, Michel Therrien rotated other wingers on Plekanec’s left wing, with Michael Bournival, Dale Weise, and Rene Bourque all getting shots in the first period.

Losing Galchenyuk at this point in the year would be fairly devastating for a team that has struggled to score for nearly the entire year, but is currently riding a run of 10 games where they’re scoring on more than 13% of their shots. That won’t last much longer, and when it crashes, depth will be key.

UPDATE: Galchenyuk was seen on crutches after the game. Sounds like it’s bad.

UPDATE 2: The hit that we thought injured Galchenyuk wasn’t it at all. In fact, it was an awkward hit from Marian Hossa that ended up twisting Galchenyuk around, and injuring his right knee.
