The 2023-24 season that began on October 10 comes to a close 37 weeks later with Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
It didn’t look like the series was going to get to this point. The Florida Panthers raced out to a 3-0 series lead and had a chance for the sweep in Edmonton on June 15. The Oilers coming away with an 8-1 that night signalled that there was plenty of drama yet in the final round. Scoring at least five goals in the past two games (with a couple of empty-netters in Game 6), they’ve now earned a showdown for the championship.
The Panthers need to find a way to prevent this epic collapse from following through to completion. The Oilers, for the first time in the series, are in the position the Panthers have been in since getting out to a 3-0 lead, when one win will see them lift professional sports’ best trophy. Momentum is fully on the Oilers’ side, and if they can manage to get on the scoreboard early in this one, there may be no way back for their opponent.
